The evil eye is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually put on a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that talismans created to repel the 'evil eye' will protect people from receiving its misfortune or injury. The idea appears several times in translations of the Old Testament. Charms and decorations with eye-like symbols known as nazars, which are used to repel the evil eye are a common sight across the middle east. In some forms of the folklore, the staring eyes are supposed to bend the malicious gaze back to the sorcerer. Many religions believe that a "good eye" designates an attitude of goodwill and kindness towards others. Someone who has this attitude in life will rejoice when his fellow man prospers; he will wish everyone well.
